XVII. Mutual Funds and Asset Allocation Disclosure
Each mutual fund has a simplified prospectus, which contains important
information about the fund, including its investment objective, purchase
options and applicable charges. Please read the prospectus of the funds
in which investments may be made before investing.
Commissions, trailing commissions, management fees and expenses all
may be associated with mutual fund investments and the use of an asset
allocation service. The indicated rates of return for the funds are
the historical annual compounded total returns including changes in
unit value and reinvestment of all distributions and do not take into
account sales, redemption, distribution or optional charges or income
taxes payable by any investor that would have reduced returns.
The indicated rates of return for the STAR and Keystone asset allocation
models are the historical annual compounded total returns assuming the
investment strategy recommended by the asset allocation service is used
and after deduction of the fees and charges in respect of the service
and are based on the returns of the underlying funds.
Mutual funds are not guaranteed, their values change frequently and
past performance may not be repeated. Mutual fund securities are not
insured by the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation or by any other
government deposit insurer.
With respect to money market funds, the performance data provided assumes
reinvestment of distributions only and does not take into account sales,
redemption, distribution or optional charges or income taxes payable
by any investor that would have reduced returns. There can be no assurances
that the fund will be able to maintain its net asset value per security
at a constant amount or that the full amount of your investment in the
fund will be returned to you. Past performance may not be repeated.
XVIII. Index Disclosure
The indices cited are widely accepted benchmarks for investment performance
within their relevant regions, sectors or asset class, represent non-managed
investment portfolios, and are not necessarily indicative of future
investment returns.
XIX. Distribution Disclosure (including Series T)
The payment of distributions is not guaranteed and may fluctuate. The
payment of distributions should not be confused with a fund’s
performance, rate of return or yield. If distributions paid by the fund
are greater than the performance of the fund, your original investment
will shrink. Distributions paid as a result of capital gains realized
by a fund, and income and dividends earned by a fund are taxable in
your hands in the year they are paid. Your adjusted cost base will be
reduced by the amount of any returns of capital. If your adjusted cost
base goes below zero, you will have to pay capital gains tax on the
amount below zero.
While investors in Series T will be able to defer some personal capital
gains, they still must pay tax on capital gains distributions that arise
from the sale of individual fund holdings by fund managers, and on interest
and dividend distributions. If required, Series T will also pay a distribution
that must be reinvested in December, consisting of income and capital
gains.
XX. Segregated Funds Disclosure
The Mackenzie Segregated Funds’ individual variable annuity policy
is issued by The Great-West Life Assurance Company, a Mackenzie affiliate.
A description of the key features of the individual variable
insurance contract is contained in the information folder. Subject to
any applicable guarantee, any amount that is allocated to a segregated
fund is invested at the risk of the contractholder and may increase
or decrease in value.
XXI. Mackenzie Charitable Giving Fund
Commissions, trailing commissions, management fees and expenses all may be associated with mutual funds. A charitable administration fee and charitable operating expenses will also apply. Please read the prospectus before investing and the program guide before donating. Mutual funds are not guaranteed, their values change frequently and past performance may not be repeated. The information is general in nature and is not intended to be professional tax advice. Donations should not be made for tax considerations alone. Each donor's situation is unique and advice should be received from a financial advisor.
XXII. Morningstar Star Ratings
Morningstar Star Ratings reflect performance as of a particular date
and are subject to change monthly. The ratings are an objective, quantitative
measure of a fund’s historical risk-adjusted performance relative
to other funds in its category. Only funds with at least a three-year
track record are considered. Ratings are calculated based on a fund’s
three-, five- and ten-year performance returns, as available. The overall
rating is a weighted combination of the three-, five- and ten-year ratings.
A fund can only be rated if there are a sufficient number of funds in
its peer group to allow comparison for at least three years. For each
time period, the top 10% of the funds in a category get five stars.
For more details on the calculation of Morningstar Star Ratings, see
www.morningstar.ca.
XXIII. Borrowing Money to Buy Securities (Leveraging)
A purchase of securities with borrowed money involves greater risk
than a purchase using cash only. The extent of that risk depends on
the circumstances of the investor and the type of investment purchased.
If cash is used to pay for the securities purchase in full, the percentage
gain or loss on the investment will equal the percentage increase or
decrease in the value of the securities. The purchase of securities
using borrowed money magnifies the gain or loss on the cash invested.
This effect is called leveraging.
An investor should also be aware of the terms of a loan used to purchase
securities. The lender may require that the amount outstanding on the
loan not rise above an agreed percentage of the market value of the
securities. In these circumstances, the investor must pay down the loan
or sell the securities to return the loan amount to the agreed percentage.
If the investor does not have enough cash, the investor must sell securities,
even at a loss, to provide money to reduce the loan.
Money is also required to pay interest on the loan. Investors who borrow
money to purchase securities should have adequate financial resources
available to pay interest and reduce the loan if necessary.
XXIV. Lending Products Disclosure
Lending Products discussed in this website are provided by Mackenzie’s
affiliate, M.R.S. Trust Company, a federally regulated Trust Company
and member institution of the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Prime rates are variable and subject to fluctuation. If you borrow money
to purchase securities, your responsibility to repay the loan and pay
interest as required by its terms remains the same even if the value
of the securities purchased declines.
XXV. Mortgage Disclosure
Mortgages are also provided by M.R.S. Trust Company. M.R.S. Prime Rate
(“Prime”) will vary; your interest rate will change whenever
Prime changes. All mortgage/loan products are subject to credit approval.
Conditions and restrictions apply. M.R.S. Trust Company mortgages are
not available in Québec.
XXVI. Independent Views
Views expressed regarding a particular company, security, industry
or market sector are the views of only that speaker/author as of the
time expressed and do not necessarily represent the views of Mackenzie.
Any such views are subject to change at any time based upon markets
and other conditions and Mackenzie disclaims any responsibility to update
such views. These views are not a recommendation to buy or sell and
may not be relied on as investment advice and, because investment decisions
for Mackenzie funds are based on numerous factors, may not be relied
on as an indication of trading intent on behalf of any Mackenzie fund.
Speculation or stated beliefs about future events, such as market and
economic conditions, company or security performance, upcoming product
offerings or other projections are “forward-looking statements”.
These forward-looking statements represent the beliefs of the speaker/author
and do not necessarily represent the views of Mackenzie. General business,
market, economic and political conditions could cause actual results
to differ materially from what the speaker/author presently anticipates
or projects.
XXVII. Forward-Looking Statements
This Website may contain forward-looking statements which reflect our
current expectations or forecasts of future events. Forward-looking
statements include statements that are predictive in nature, depend
upon or refer to future events or conditions, or include words such
as “expects”, “anticipates”, “intends”,
“plans”, “believes”, “estimates”,
“preliminary”, “typical”, and other similar
expressions. In addition, these statements may relate to future corporate
actions, future financial performance of a fund or a security and their
future investment strategies and prospects. Forward-looking statements
are inherently subject to, among other things, risks, uncertainties
and assumptions which could cause actual events, results, performance
or prospects to differ materially from those expressed in, or implied
by, these forward-looking statements. These risks, uncertainties and
assumptions include, without limitation, general economic, political
and market factors in North America and internationally, interest and
foreign exchange rates, the volatility of global equity and capital
markets, business competition, technological change, changes in government
regulations, changes in tax laws, unexpected judicial or regulatory
proceedings, catastrophic events and the ability of Mackenzie to attract
or retain key employees. The foregoing list of important risks, uncertainties
and assumptions is not exhaustive. Please consider these and other factors
carefully and not place undue reliance on forward-looking statements.
The forward-looking information contained on this Website is current
only as of the date the statement was made. There should not be an expectation
that such information will in all circumstances be updated, supplemented
or revised whether as a result of new information, changing circumstances,
future events or otherwise.
